Condition
Project activities
- The first step involved gathering detailed information about each aircraft, including its history, significance, and records of any alterations or maintenance conducted over the years. To support this process, ICS engaged the expertise of David Crotty, the curator of Qantas Heritage at Qantas Airways.
- Next, ICS conducted a comprehensive condition assessment of each aircraft with the help of David Crotty. This assessment, executed over a day for each aircraft, helped us understand the overall current condition and prioritise areas for future maintenance and capital works.
- CMPs and maintenance manuals were then created. These include the determination of policies for the future care and display of each aircraft, based on their individual significance and requirements.
- The CMPs were matched with the budgets, resources and capacity available at the Museum, in order to identify training needs and develop a realistic implementation plan.

Outcome
Meetings were held with QFM’s Curator Sarah Johnston to ensure alignment of the plans with the museum's needs and expectations.
The CMP’s and manuals standardise future care and maintenance processes for this important and unusual museum dedicated to housing original and replica aircraft considered iconic within the history of Qantas.
