Condition
Challenges
- Reviewing a large and varied group of over 300 artworks within a limited timeframe
- Creating reports that were clear and practical for multiple teams to use.
- Balancing quick and accessible assessment while still providing enough detail to guide treatment and display decisions.
Treatment
Project activities
- The ICS Preventive Conservator assessed paintings, sculptures, inkjet prints and multimedia works.
- Reporting was kept practical and easy to use for both White Rabbit and the ICS project team: reports consisted of marked-up photos of the artwork so issues could be easily located.
- ICS identified immediate treatment priorities for paintings, objects and paper conservation specialists, which included everything from light surface dust and handling marks to more serious structural issues.
- ICS advised on practical rehousing and preservation measures to support safer long-term storage and handling.
Outcome
In preparing the artworks for exhibition, ICS supported White Rabbit Gallery by delivering clear, practical assessments of condition and targeted conservation recommendations for key works across the collection. This was achieved through close collaboration between ICS discipline specialists and gallery staff.
Findings were presented in a concise, highly visual format, providing White Rabbit Gallery with a valuable reference tool to support ongoing monitoring and inform long-term preservation planning for this significant collection.
