Maša (Masha) Berdon

Masha is an objects conservator based with ICS Perth, undertaking interventive conservation treatments across a range of objects and materials, including studio-based projects and larger site-specific conservation works.

Prior to joining ICS, she gained extensive practical experience working across a range of significant heritage sites in Slovenia. Her experience includes hands-on conservation work on castles, churches and belltowers, as well as historic paint stratigraphy analysis and detailed documentation. Her work has developed a particular focus on traditional materials and decorative finishes. Masha completed her masters degree with an awarded thesis, focused on the preservation of stencilled wall paintings, particularly in situations where the original artwork is at risk. Her research explored the use of both traditional and computer-based techniques to document original stencil designs. Based on this research, reconstructions of stencilled wall paintings were created, contributing to the preservation and interpretation of built heritage.

Her background in built heritage and decorative arts, combined with her current experience in objects conservation, has developed a broad, creative and hands-on approach to the conservation of cultural heritage.
